Cycle with the old Bamboo

Up at the Cycleshow, which has moved to the NEC so now a train ride rather than a cycle away!
It’s a nice mix between not too large and not too small. So you can easily get around all of the exhibitors in a couple of hours and without having to queue. Though today is for the press and trade, so it may be different come the weekend
We’ve seen some nice stuff including a mountain bike made in Yorkshire – in surely a labour of love -from bamboo, Pacific Cyles have their folding bikes with full size wheels, there’s the rather lovely retro style touring bikes from Condor and hundreds of attempts at making a convincing electric bike – with nobody yet approaching the design quality of the GoCycle.
Not sure if electric bikes are one area that needs a complete rethink both in design terms – are people really going to pay £1700+ for something based on a basic bicycle- and the law with its insistence that they must be powered assisted pedal cycles or we’re into road tax, number plates and insurance.
There are couple of tracks to try everything and anything on – including a 1Km mountain bike demo track , which you can attack on the bamboo cycle if it takes your fancy.

All in all a nice show for an apparently buoyant sector, strange then that other than on the odd dealer stand, none of the major brands – Specialized etc – are present, maybe business is a little bit too easy!
